Dr. Murray attended Auburn University, majoring in physics and pre-med. While there, he was a member of Phi Gamma Fraternity and became heavily involved with student government. To this day, he continues his close friendship with the other members of the student governing body from his class.
During his senior year at Auburn, Dr. Murray was awarded early acceptance at The University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham, beginning classes there that summer after graduation. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Carraway Methodist in Birmingham, and then moved to Selma, Alabama, where he practiced for twelve years.
In 1993, Dr. Murray moved back to Birmingham to begin a sabbatical in Sports Medicine. After completing the sabbatical, he remained in Birmingham, and continues to enjoy his career of over thirty years in Internal Medicine with the last 2 years as a concierge physician.
Other than medicine, Dr. Murray enjoys spending time at the lake with his wife, Farrar, his three children, Lauren, Michael, and Zack, and his two grandchildren. He loves his Golden Retrievers, music, history, gardening, and has a particular interest in woodworking. He actually contributed in large part to the building of his home at Lake Martin, and continues to work on improvements and furniture for the house.
Dr. Murray feels strongly about giving back to the community. This includes the indigent care clinic he opened a few years ago in rural Alabama, in the hometown of his grandfather, whom he never had the pleasure of meeting. He gives his time to the clinic on a regular basis, and enjoys working with the community there.
